The Georgia Museum of Art is located on the campus of the University of Georgia right in the heart of Athens, GA. The museum serves as an academic resource, but is also the official art museum of the state of Georgia since 1982. GMOA is very family-friendly, and helps organize and host numerous community events on the premises throughout the year.
The modern building itself is an art treasure, but permanent collections of primarily 19th and 20th century American, European, and Asian works on paper, and the Samuel H. Kress Study Collection of Italian Renaissance, are what ensure the Georgia Museum of Art a place in the upper pantheon of must-visit museums.
